Welcome to IAMRA!
Illinois Alaskan Malamute Rescue Association - IAMRA - is an all volunteer 501C3 charity that is dedicated to the welfare of a magnificent breed, the Alaskan Malamute. We are an affiliate of AMAL - Alaskan Malamute Assistance League, which is the recognized rescue of the Alaskan Malamute Club of America. As such we are bound by a code of ethics and must follow rules and procedures in the adoption process. We provide assistance through dog rescue, foster and adoption, owner retention, and behavioral issues.

***05/01/2024 – at this time, we are unfortunately closed to intakes due to a lack of foster homes. We can still provide courtesy listings for shelters, and with owner listings for owned dogs that need rehoming. If are interested in fostering, please fill out an application.
Any intakes are completely based upon foster/space availability. We generally have very limited, if any, space available. The most common option for owned dogs that need to be re-homed, is our “Dogs Still With Owners Seeking New Homes” option. If your ability to hold onto your dog is extremely limited, please look into boarding your dog at your vet or a nearby boarding facility while a new home is being pursued.

Can You Help Us?
The bad economy has affected everyone - most of all, the homeless furries. We are short on foster homes, and have been able to save additional lives by boarding some dogs at local kennels. Meanwhile, more malamutes in need are showing up everyday. We need your support to help them. No donation is too small. Please, can you help us save their lives?

"Thus it has been down through the ages. Animals have been domesticated and have helped us in all the important undertakings in the settlements of this great country. We are now learning to show our appreciation of the debt we owe by giving them more humane treatment. This in itself is one of the best indications of our progress in civilization. Ours is a machine age and, however much we may regret it, the need for animals is rapidly disappearing. Some we will keep to minister to our pleasure as companions of our leisure hours. But the days of their usefulness are numbered. Like the knight in armor let not their memory be forgotten." - Arthur T. Walden
