Mr. Peabody Wagner of Malcatraz
August 7, 2003 – December 7, 2016
Godspeed old man, we loved you dearly Peebers, but knew you had to go on ahead to be with Joanne and Lizzie, even though it broke our hearts to see you go. Wear your silver harness with pride, please don’t forget us, we’ll be looking for you on the other side when the time comes.
A donation was made by Mark and Vicky, and Auntie Tammie, in Peabody’s memory.

Miss Lucy Loo of Malcatraz
2003 - Sept 14th, 2016
The name her owners had for her, was “Lucky” – not so lucky for the first 12 years. The moment we laid eyes on her, we knew she would be Lucy Loo. It was obvious this old girl had had a rough life, yet she was so soft, so sweet, with a face like an angel that would just melt your heart. We brought her home…she had never been inside, never lay on a soft bed, never had a cookie, toy or bone. Getting her on good food, and meds and supplements for her old age made a huge difference, and soon she was prancing around and woo-wooing at everyone. She became good friends with our old man, Peabody, we would often see them snoozing back to back in the sun.
Every day, she was sweeter than the day before. I often wondered what it would have been like to have had her for more of her life….for as bad as her life was, she remained so sweet, so trusting, so hopeful….
Miss Lucy Loo, we will remember you always, please remember us and wait for us on the ! other side.
We miss you more than words can say, and Peabody misses you too. Please watch over him from above.
Godspeed my beautiful Lucy.

Dylan
Handsome Dylan was returned to us in July 2017. He is one of malamute Asha’s puppies born nine years ago. He is a well mannered boy, housebroken and crate trained, and does well with most dogs that respect him. Dylan has many trust issues and has blossomed under Erin and Dan's care, and has decided being with them is the best place for him to stay.

Mia
For my sweet Mia,
You were my best friend. It's hard to say goodbye, but I know you are no longer in pain and are running and chasing the squirrels with God's other furry friends.

Jake
Jake was rescued through Illinois Alaskan Malamute Rescue Association, the 500th adoption, by Carrie Hirsch, who found the perfect dog for her. She loved his wonderful spirit and quickly found out he was quite the talker. Carrie was very protective of Jake, fed him better than herself, groomed the wooly boy daily.
I met them on an afternoon walk with my husky Taiga. We all became best friends, including Jake's human sister Kaitlyn when she visited. There were years with the dogs chasing each other, running circles, wrestling, mock snarling, twisting, jumping. And that was in our respective apartments. Then add a park and even better add snow and they were inseparable. One favorite memory was the two guys, heads out the back car window on the coldest, below zero day and Jake with frozen snotsicle hanging from his nose. They were so happy together, particularly at the huge Prairie Wolf dog park. More chasing each other, meeting other dogs that Jake was sure wanted to be mounted. No, not allowed, Jakey Boy.
Unfortunately Carrie suffered a long illness. Eventually we took Jake into our house with Taiga and my late sister's little Yorkie Sadie. Months later, Taiga died, then two weeks later Carrie. She had requested that her ashes be spread in the dog park, which we did with Carrie's brother Mark and wife Barb.
Jake had another path to follow. Jake got to go to our humble cabin in the woods. He cried during the first 7 hr. trip and never sat down. But he was so excited when we arrived, new smells, dirt to dig in, long walks as the sun came up and went down, runs down the road back to the cabin. Even though he never liked water, he loved the rich smells along the lake shore and watched those frogs hop away. Dog heaven. After I brushed him one day, a squirrel ran by to grab some of that warm undercoat. Jake just watched, never the hunter our huskies had been. Jake went north many times with us and had to be drug back to the car for the trip home.
Jim and I found out what a talker Jake was; he talked, demanded, complained, cried, whined. Most fun was when he announced he'd finally finished his food. He talked, circled madly, ran down the hall, came back and circled more until I fed him again.
On our long walks, he met so many strangers, young children who saw how gentle he was, and gloriously soft like a teddy bear. He went with us to the nursing home where Jim's mother has lived for years. Treats were to be had but best was visiting other people. Residents, visitors, and staff wanted to pet him and remember their dogs. One woman asked his age, 13 at the time. Oh, he's ready for his bar mitzvah, she said so sweetly. Another residence put Jake's and Sadie's pictures on either side of Jesus' picture.
Jake's decline was long with more aches, his runs shorter, his eating more picky, his naps longer.
but throughout his indomitable spirit was so loving. His eyes were so soulful.
His passing was peaceful. We will scatter some of his ashes in the woods and some in the dog park with Carrie.
On long twisting paths he would wait for us at a bend. When he saw us following, then he would run on.
Run on, sweet Jake, to Taiga, to Carrie.

Daisy
We have some sad news at IAMRA.....Sanctuary Sweetheart Daisy has made her journey to the Rainbow Bridge ;-( Thanks to her wonderful foster Mom, Karen, and her terrific sponsors, Daisy lived a long and happy life. She had lots of special needs and medical issues, but she had the very best of everything during her 8+ years with IAMRA. She was 16-1/2 when she made her journey. Of course her foster Mom is devastated.....so please say a little prayer for Karen, and for Daisy at the Bridge. Wear your Silver Harness with pride sweet girl, you earned it.
Sasha
11 years and 11 months with you was not long enough. Sasha, you changed my life and brought more joy than I could have imagined when I first picked you up. Your energy and love was infectious! You are my baby girl, my protector, my best friend, my heart. I miss you dearly, and hate that you were taken so suddenly. I hope you felt my love up to your last breath, because I felt yours! Wear your silver harness and join your mom and siblings waiting for you at the bridge. We'll see each other again. I miss you Sasha. Kiss, Kiss, Kiss, Kiss...I love you.
Mariah and Jacob
Mariah - 12 years 10 months - you were that one dog that we all hope for. You loved to go with me as my Mobility Assistance Service Dog and were so good at your job. I would say "Working Dog" and get your vest and your tail would wag so fast and you'd talk to me. You loved to talk to me and we had many wonderful conversations together. You will be missed and I look forward to seeing you again at the Rainbow Bridge. Run, play and have fun until we meet again. We love you and miss you Miss Mariah.
Jacob -2008 Adoptee from IAMRA
Jacob - 10 years old - You were a sweet boy and so full of love. Your life had a very rough start but we were very happy to welcome you into our home. Mariah showed you the ropes. You loved to tease her with toys, walking by her with a toy in your mouth. You and Tundra loved to play together. We'll miss you every time we go to the field to have a cook out. You loved playing in the kiddie pool with Mariah and Tundra. You won't have anymore pain and we'll see you at the Rainbow Bridge. We love you and miss you so much Mr. Jacob.

Fairbanks
Fairbanks, deeply loved and missed by Wendy Silhavy. Godspeed Fairbanks, see you on the other side.
Bandit
The Bandit, beloved Sanctuary boy of Susan and Kerri, gone too soon. You are loved and missed.
Sweet, gentle, 12-year-old Bandit was surrendered to Chicago Animal Care and Control as his owner felt they could no longer care for him, and it was stated he was starting to pee more often. He is such a gentle soul. He was so easy to handle on a leash, and he defies his age. Lots of pep in his step and he even jumps up for treats!

Henry/Thunder
From Henry's sanctuary mom Nancy:
Henry, the Flower Flattener, is now tending the flowers at the Rainbow Bridge. He lost his battle with whatever demon was stealing his strength and his appetite. My heart is broken. He was a gentle giant who loved everyone he met. He loved to scratch his paw on the floor to tell me that it was time for a hug and more attention. He had several vet visit for his various health problems, but he was always in a good mood. I never once heard him growl or snap. The vet was always happy to see him because he was so easy to handle. My tears will fill the river under the Rainbow Bridge. I can't believe he is gone.

Grandpa Odin
If only those soulful cloudy eyes could tell us the things they've seen. Odin has joined our Sanctuary Sweetheart program. We know that Grandpa Odin is not a malamute - but rather a husky - we love our mini musher cousins and he was out of options, our good friends and local husky rescues have been slammed with dogs from several large seizures. He'll never have to spend another second wondering if he is loved, or why his family abandoned him in his twilight.
Dalton
Dalton has been fostered with Kim and Tess for so long now, he is comfortable with them and has become a part of their family, so the decision has been made, because of his special needs to make him a sanctuary dog and stay with his fosters.
Outlaw
From Outlaw's Sanctuary mom Joni:
It is with a heavy heart that I need to tell you that Outlaw, one of our Sanctuary Sweethearts went to the bridge. Outlaw was a typical malamute, food driven and insistent on having things his way. He was a snuggler and total sweetheart. I fell in love the first time I saw him at the kennel jumping and wooing for attention. He was so determined to be with the people! We thought his limping was from the jumping and once I brought him home to foster it did improve as did his skin condition after we found just the right diet. He was sensitive to wheat so of course went crazy for bread. I was a real challenge to keep him away, he would chase crumbs in the seat of the couch cushions and chairs. Most of all he never lost his desire to be social. I took him to visit a young girl undergoing cancer treatment here, far from home because she was missing her malamute who couldn't make the trip. Outlaw went right up to her and woo'd and wormed his way right into her heart. We scheduled a few more visits before she was in remission and able to go home and Outlaw always was glad to see her and be on the receiving end of her need to snuggle a malamute. I really miss the bug lug but I know he is now running free at the bridge, happy, pain free and scarfing down biscuits. Until we meet again my heart..

Wuf IV
Wuf was a rescue, I had her for a mere 3 1/2 years. She had heartworm when I got her and three different intestinal worms, but we got her healthy and she was the most lovable of my 4 Malamutes. I miss her so much. She passed on April 7th 2018.

Lexi
Stoic Lexi hid her pain from us as long as she could - only weeks after going to live with Joni, it was discovered that she had cancer, and sadly, we had to say good-bye. Thank you Lexi for brightening everyone's life around you, for as short of a time as it was.
Grace
Sadly Grace succumbed to her medical issues in May of 2017. Thank you Erin and Dan for going above and beyond as her fosters, and for giving her the best home she's ever known. Grace was left at a down state animal control with a note saying someone found her in their yard, but no one came to claim her and she was in danger of being put to sleep. She is around 3 years old, enjoys human attention, and may do well with a calm male dog. She is a bright, independent girl that will need a family committed to positive training.
Charger
On August 30th, 2016, Charger sadly lost his battle with Polyneuropathy. Thank you Cynthia and Zen Dogs for giving Charger a great home where he could live in comfort in his last days.
Malcatraz Just Martin
1999 - August 17, 2015
If I had the magic it would take, to love you good enough on the outside, to make you feel it on the inside, maybe I could make you stay.
And I'll take with me the memories to be my sunshine after the rain. It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.
Wear your Silver Harness with pride my darling Martin. You were such a special boy, and we love you dearly. Wait for us on the other side little man, we’ll be waiting for the day when we can see you again.

McGee
McGee,
It's been over a year since we last saw your beautiful, happy face. No matter how many days pass, it never seems to get any easier. Our hearts will never be the same after having loved you. The day you left us, we thought we would never again be able to smile. Yet we can not help but release tearful-smiles when we routinely pore over your pictures. Your spirit melted our hearts like a hot July sun, even now your memory emits a warm sunset upon our hearts. We will love you always. You will always be our family. Something you deserved a LIFETIME of.
Our sweet baby boy, please wait for us at the Rainbow-Bridge, we can't wait to see you again. Until then, we miss you everyday.

Dinah
We are sad to let everyone know that IAMRA’s Sanctuary Sweetheart Daisy went to the Bridge in August of 2015. She had a wonderful life with her sanctuary Mom, Nancy, who took amazing care of her, and saw her through to a very ripe old age. Of course extra thanks to her sponsors, who made it possible for us to provide for her. Old broken down dogs don’t stand a chance in shelters, and anyone who has ever taken in an old dog, knows the love they give you is nothing short of amazing. There is just something so special about giving an old dog a loving home for their twilight. If anyone wants to open their home and heart to an old dog, please let us know. Having folks willing and waiting, makes it possible for us to say “yes” to the next old one in need.
Godspeed Dinah, wear your silver harness with pride, meet up with all the IAMRA kids and peeps at the Bridge, and we will see you there.

Valentino
Sadly, Valentino's neurological issues could no longer be controlled, and he is now at The Bridge.
Sophie
Sophie was born here at IAMRA, inheriting her malamute attitude from her mom and her lab looks from her dad. She was choosy about her canine friends but she really loved people and thought she should stop to say hello to everyone wherever we went.
My love for my sweet, loving, beautiful girl was big and unconditional and she will always own a huge place in my heart.
No worries Soph because one day you and I will be together again! Until then, go run and play with everyone, have fun and enjoy some of your favorite things starting with an unlimited supply of chicken jerky strips, bully sticks and hedge hog toys that will always squeak. I love and miss you more than words can say my baby girl.
Samakee
Dear sweet Sammi changed our lives. She had a rough start in life, abused by a backyard breeder. But with patience, love, and compassion she learned to trust and became a wonderful friend and companion. We will miss her SO fuzzy fur and her expression of joy at the first snow of the year. We love you Miss Sammi and will see you again someday.
Chaka
Chaka (fka Fozzy Bear), deeply loved and missed by his Mom Eleonora. Wear your Silver Harness with pride and we’ll see you on the other side.
Woo Woo Woody
Woody was rescued by an AR rescue group who pulled him before he even entered the shelter. They entrusted us with his care, and he brightened the lives of all who met him . We had such high hopes that Woody would find his forever home after his heartworm treatment, but it wasn't meant to be. We are so glad we got to know Woody before despite all we and the vets could do, we lost him due to an underlying auto immune anemia. Run free sweet boy.
Sonja
11/21/02-11/14/15
I loved you from the first moment I met you my beautiful, shy, sweet, South Dakota girl. More than anything I wanted to help you feel the true, unconditional love I had for you and to make you feel safe, happy and a treasured member of the pack.
You gave me so much joy and laughter and when you smiled, I smiled. I love and miss you so much Sonja but you remain forever in my heart and we will see each other again. Until then I know you are happy, healthy and having a grand time with your BFF, Fritz.

Bear
Adopted in 2007 died 8-4-15
Bear (fka BJ) was the sweetest kindest most loyal and loving dog anyone could ever have. Everyone that ever met him would always tell us what a “Great Dog” that he was. When Bear would meet people he would always have a paw for them to shake, and often a big “Boo Woo”. He had a great disposition, gentle, intelligent and strong. He always protected us and his territory. He was a typical Malamute, so if you wanted him to do something we would make him think it was his idea. We will always love and miss him and never forget him. |
Eli
Chico
Norman
Deeply loved and missed by Matt G and family -
wear your Silver Harness with pride sweet boy and
we will see you on the other side.
Fritz |
January 29, 2004 - March 30, 2015
You were my lovebug, my sweet, handsome, mama's boy, my shadow, who followed me everywhere just so you could be wherever I was at. Such a silly goof! You will always be forever in my heart so not even your journey to the bridge can separate us or break our special bond. I'll see you again in heaven Fritzie! Mama loves you and misses your gorgeous smile! (A generous donation was made by Fritz’s Mama to help other malamutes in need) |
Zorro
December 2, 2005 - January 29, 2015
Our sweet boy from northern Michigan will always be remembered by his family. Zorro's rescue brought together several "forever friends". Small in size but had a huge heart, and loved every person he met and his IAMRA "sister" Kallie. He won his CGC medal on his first try at the Malawalk! His very vocal greetings will be missed by all that knew him! A donation was made by his dad (Steve Minch) in behalf of Zorro to IAMRA to continue to help others malamutes like Zorro. |
Shiloh
Shiloh was truly a gentle giant. He was my angel on paws and will remain in our hearts forever. Thanks again for bringing this sweet boy into our lives.
Tango
Tango our very special and loveable boy. He touched the hearts of all who met him. His intelligence, playfulness, gentleness, combined with strength and ability to protect the pack made him irreplaceable in everyone’s heart. Run free with your silver harness amongst the great ones… you’re our buddy, rascal, and friend forever. Tango you are greatly missed.
Hawk
Hawk was a very sweet senior boy of 10+ that came to us from a downstate shelter. He lived his last days in comfort with his foster Brenda. A donation was made in his memory by the gang at Malcatraz.
Molly - aka "Good Golly Miss Molly"
02-12-2014
Molly was the very sweet, special girl of Dan and Nettie. Molly loved
everyone she met and was as kind and gentle as any living creature could
ever be. We will sorely miss our dear, sweet Molly girl. Our time with
you was way too short.

Trapper
You will never know how much I'm going to miss you. You were truly one of the great ones! I am so proud of you! I will always love you and you will always be in my heart. You'll always be my boy.
I love you - Dad
Donations in Trappers memory were made by Dad, Rich, and PJ and the BigDogs
Keela
Keela was a certified pet therapy dog and helped several children who had suffered physical and emotional abuse. Her calm presence was a great comfort to them. She was quite the character, and provided many laughs throughout the years and a fair share of trouble. We never found a single type of food she didn't love with a passion. Philip and Heather miss her dearly.
Ernie
Ernie was a true malamute. He was independent in nature and did things on his own terms. He was a certified pet therapy dog. Ernie enjoyed his daily walks and always took time to smell the roses...and the grass...and everything. He helped 14 foster dogs get forever homes. He graced us with just over 14 years. Philip and Heather miss him dearly.
Storm
Storm, beloved girl adopted from GoldenYears. Her life was cut short by CRF. A generous donation was made in her memory by her parents, Philip and Heather Kocisko, and also by many family members and friends. Play hard with the Angels, Storm.
Old Smokey
Much loved foster senior boy of Philip and Heather Kocisko, who made his twilight so very special. Godspeed old fellow. Kind donations were made in his memory by his family - he was a very loved old boy.
Sitka
Taken in by IAMRA at 13. Much loved foster girl of Philip and Heather Kocisko. You will be missed by us all. Donations were made by family and friends in memory of this special girl.
Arnold
9-08-2013
His sweet and funny disposition was truly an inspiration. Arnold was the skinniest dog I had ever seen when Tammie brought him to me and he could barely walk. I thought I was going to give him a few days or weeks of comfort and love so he left this world knowing kindness. I underestimated the strength of his spirit. He rallied and loved being a part of my pack. He put on weight, fell in love with Nellie and enjoyed exchanging insults with Woof. I really got a kick out of my Grumpy Old Man. I am really going to miss his head appearing on the arm of my chair and his deep and hoarse Awrf when he wanted some attention. Run free and easy sweet man you are loved.
